In 1910, at the age of 32, Charles Rolls was the first Brit to die in a plane crash. His business legacy lived on because of his partner Henry Royce (who would have celebrated his 145th birthday today). 

Not only did Royce carry on their passion for cars he also sought to make a better plane engine. By 1931 he had been so successful in doing so that he bought out his rival Bentley.

In 2000, Six of the Top Ten in the Forbes World Rich List were from the USA and none were from developing countries. In 2008, Only two US Billionaires (Gates & Buffett) remain in the Top 10, and half are now from the developing world. India has four billionaires in the Top 10.

I wrote in 2002 that as the world economies cycled into winter we would see more metal profiles at the top of the Rich List. From two Creators (Gates & Ellison) in 2000, we now have two Accumulators (Buffett & Helu) at the top of the list. Behind are a series of Accumulators, Lords and Mechanics, from the rival Ambani brothers who have split the conglomerate Reliance, to the empires of Mittal (steel), Deripaska (aluminium) and Singh (property) and the chains of Albrecht (Aldi) and Kamprad (IKEA). Gates is now all on his lonesome as the sole Creator profile in the Top 10.

While that trend will continue over the coming years, so will the trend towards Developing Countries. China and India saw their billionaire numbers increase by over 300% in the last year. Within five years, there's a high likelihood none of the Top 10 will be from the US.

A Coutts Bank study revealed that 50% of People in the UK believe they will be a millionaire at one point in their life. However, only 425,000 people were millionaires (£1M or more net worth) in the UK at last count (about .7% or 1 per 145).

When you consider that an estimated, £2.6M is the actual net worth amount needed to live a "Millionaire Lifestyle" (5 Bed House, Overseas Holidays, Yacht, 2 Sports Cars, Personal Staff), there are some very strange perceptions out there.

Of the people who were “Self-Made” millionaires, one of the most common sources of wealth was Business Ownership.

Judy Cramer created the stage show Mama Mia after meeting Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, of ABBA while she was working in production in the London Theatre scene. 

Originally pitching the idea as a movie screen play she had a breakthrough in 1995 when she realised that it would be better to create a stage show. 

By 1997 she had invested over £20,000, 2 years of her time and had sold her flat to finance the growing costs of her obsession. With virtually no encouragement from her friends she persisted on. 

Finally in late 1997 Judy successfully secured the rights to the ABBA songs, persuaded Polygram to finance half the £3M set up costs and advance her £300,000 to begin the show. 

With the support of Polygram, Bjorn and Benny she went on to get a Swedish Bank to finance the rest of the money she needed to open the show. 

In April 1999, four years after she was struck with the idea, Mama Mia opened to sell-out crowds and the show was an instant success. It has since grossed more than $2 billion at the box office, opened in more than 170 cities all over the world, been seen by 30 million people.

Craymer's has a 50% share in her company "Littlestar", that has monthly turnover of £16M+. All the creative team involved in the show have become millionaires, and Craymer earns an estimated £4m a year from the show, amassing a personal fortune of tens of millions of pounds.

Not to rest on her laurels, Judy Craymer recently announced that her Stage Show will finally become the movie she originally envisaged over a decade ago. With Universal Pictures behind it, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan Staring in it and a $65M Budget it is sure to be the feel good "chick-flick" of the summer.
